Berkeley Hotel
Miami Beach, FL
Category: Historic
Project Summary
Berkeley Hotel reimagines a historic Miami Beach building, preserving its Mediterranean Revival façade of arched pediments, decorative Chippendale-style balcony railings, and warm stucco walls beneath a canopy of mature street trees. The restored street-facing elevation retains its original architectural detailing and pedestrian-scaled proportions, anchoring the building firmly within its Art Deco-era streetscape. At the building's core, a sky-lit interior courtyard reveals a fully reimagined addition sleek louvered glass volumes rise above the historic base, wrapped in dark aluminum sunshades that provide a striking contemporary counterpoint to the preserved exterior. A rooftop pool deck and lounge crown the building, offering residents a private outdoor retreat, while a landscaped courtyard with dining terraces and mature palms brings green space to the heart of the block. Berkeley Hotel pairs sensitive historic preservation with a bold modern insertion, honoring its architectural legacy while introducing a fresh, amenity-rich chapter to the building's story.
