The Real Deal: Meyers hires Kobi Karp for historic El Paso hotel job

Project Summary

The Camino Real Hotel got a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 December 24, 2016 [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="600"] The Camino Real Hotel in El Paso, Texas[/caption] Coral Gables-based Meyers Group selected Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design for a renovation of a historic hotel in El Paso, Texas. The 356-room Camino Real Hotel got a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located at 101 South El Paso Street in the heart of El Paso’s downtown district. The El Paso architect firm of in’situ Architecture, led by William C. Helm, is the collaborating team for the project. The renovation work is scheduled to begin March 2017. Meyers Group acquired the hotel for an undisclosed amount in October. Crews will renovate all 356 hotel rooms and suites at the Camino Real, as well as conference rooms and the second-floor grand ballroom. A restoration of the original tenth-floor rooftop is also part of the plan. Panoramic views of the Franklin Mountains, the historic Rio Grande and the Mexican border will be available along with drinks at an expanded bar room next to the rooftop terrace. “The unique vision of restoring and renovating this storied hotel in El Paso is inspired by the rich, historic architecture and material details of the 100-year-old hotel,” said Kobi Karp, founder and principal at Kobi Karp Architecture and Design, said in a prepared statement. The redesign will feature such local materials as copper, brass and burnished leathers. Click here to view full article.
