Budget hotel demolished to make way for Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale

Project Summary

The last recognizable walls of Tropic Cay motel were torn down today to make way for the Four Seasons Hotel & Private Residences Fort Lauderdale coming in 2018.

At media event Wednesday, city officials and developers of the $200 million project watched as the claws of two excavators bore into the sides of the remaining walls of the budget hotel, and the last of its facade crumbled to the ground.

Kobi Karp, who designed the Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale and is also behind the Surf Club Four Seasons Hotel & Residences in Miami-Dade’s Surfside, bills the project as the “crown jewel” of the area.

“When we first met with the city manager and the mayor about this project, you could see the excitement,” said Karp, principal of Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design. “It’s a great flag with great ownership.”
