Construction is complete — and sales are starting to close — at 3550 South Ocean, the 30-unit beachfront condominium building that replaced the longtime Palm Beach Oceanfront Inn, known to longtime locals simply as “The Hawaiian,” in South Palm Beach.

Developed by DDG, the seven-floor luxury building at 3550 S. Ocean Blvd. was the first new oceanfront condo in about a decade to be built on the barrier island that South Palm Beach shares with Palm Beach.

Construction had been ongoing for about two years. The building stands on an acre, about a third of a mile south of the Palm Beach line.

Douglas Elliman Real Estate is marketing the development in an exclusive arrangement, just as the agency did with The Bristol, the new uber-successful, ultra-luxury tower that rises 25 stories on South Flagler Drive across from Palm Beach.

With its stair-step design to maximize views, 3550 South Ocean offers two- and three-bedroom condos. A search last week showed six units for sale and another seven under contract in the Palm Beach Board of Realtors Multiple Listing Service.

The most expensive unit available, at $7.2 million, is Penthouse A, a three-bedroom condo with 3,645 square feet of interior space. The other apartments are priced from just under $4 million to $2.45 million, according to MLS. Interior space in those condos ranges from about 2,600 to 3,000 square feet.

The amenity list includes direct-elevator access to units, private entry foyers, a beachfront saltwater swimming pool and an on-site fitness studio. The penthouses have private rooftops with plunge pools and outdoor summer kitchens.

The 3550 South Ocean building was the first Florida project for its developer, a company that also has built residential buildings in New York and California. The design team included GarciaStromberg | GS4studios of Palm Beach, Kobi Karp Architecture of Miami and Champalimaud of New York.

The building’s completion was announced Sept. 17. “We are thrilled to see it come to life,” said Joseph A. McMillan Jr., CEO and chairman of DDG, said in a release.

The developer also has partnered with companies to provide residents with benefits that include “on-demand lifestyle services” such as in-residence massages, private fitness training, yoga and youth fitness, according to a spokeswoman. And a partnership with Star Jets International offers residents custom packages for concierge jet services.

The Elliman sales team is led by agent Arno DeVos as sales director assisted agent Jillian Rosen.
